The answer depends on the design — and it's more demanding than most people assume.
According to our weaving partner, a saree with detailed pallu work takes about two and a half days to weave. A simpler design, without the elaborate pallu, takes roughly one to one and a half days.
But "one day" doesn't mean a light workload. When our partner says a day, they mean a continuous stretch of genuine, sustained effort — typically 14 to 16 hours of weaving to complete even the simpler version of a single saree.
Why this matters
It's easy to think of "one day" as a quick turnaround. In handloom weaving, it means something closer to two full workdays' worth of focused, physical effort, compressed into one sitting at the loom. That's the real time and labor behind even the simpler pieces in a Maheshwari collection — and it's worth remembering the next time "handmade" starts to feel like just a label.
