Yes, you can wash it at home
A Patola can absolutely be hand-washed at home. Use a mild liquid detergent — Easy liquid was mentioned specifically — or simply reetha (soap nut) water, a traditional, gentle alternative. No dry cleaning is required, and no special professional handling either.
The design doesn't fade. The fabric might, eventually — and that's the point
There's a Gujarati saying our partner shared: "phati Patole bhaat, kapde par phate" — loosely, the fabric itself will eventually wear out before the design ever does.
He put it plainly: he won't call it a warranty, but he will call it a guarantee — worn for 80 to 100 years, the design and pattern remain exactly as they were the day it was woven. The cloth may age. The pattern doesn't.
Why this matters
This is a saree meant to be handled, worn, and washed at home for decades — not preserved behind glass. That's the entire point of how it's made: a design so deeply woven into the thread itself that ordinary wear simply can't touch it.
